PHIs inspect 5773 dansal, 810 warned

Public Health Inspectors (PHIs) have warned the organizers of 810 dansal against providing the public with unsafe food and harming the environment, following inspections carried out on 5,773 dansal across the country on Vesak days.
Around 1,200 Public Health Inspectors took part in the operation to inspect 5,773 dansal in the country on May 24 and 25.
The organizers of 810 of those dansal were warned and instructed to provide safe food to the public while protecting the environment.
The PHIs had given special attention to dasal providing beverages as they are the most frequently seen and organized dansal.
It was reported yesterday (25) that 46 persons were hospitalized for food poisoning after eating at a dansala in Wathugedara, Balapitiya.
Twenty-five of them were admitted to the Balapitiya Hospital while the rest were treated at the Wathugedara Rural Hospital.
