Man arrested with elephant tusks

A suspect has been arrested by officers of the Anuradhapura anti-vice unit while attempting to sell a pair of elephant tusks.

Police said the arrest was made near the Kala Oya Bridge last night after an officer disguised as a potential buyer approached the suspect.

The ivory tusks seized from the suspect, are believed to have been obtained from a tusker poached at the Wilpattu National Park.

The suspect, a 65-year-old resident of Pahala Puliyankulama, is to be produced at the Thambuththegama Magistrate’s Court today.
