
Sri Lanka has requested for special security measures for today’s Champions Trophy semi-final match between Sri Lanka and India, in the wake of reports of a possible pro-LTTE protest at the venue.
High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in London, Dr. Chris Nonis has made a request from Britain’s Scotland Yard for adequate security at the match, Secretary of the Ministry of External Affairs Karunaratne Amunugama said.
It has been reported that certain pro-LTTE groups have planned a protest against Sri Lanka during the 2nd Semifinal which is set to take place at Cardiff today.
A tense situation had was reported outside the Oval Cricket Ground after the Cricket match between Australia and Sri Lanka on Monday, as Sri Lankan cricket fans and pro-LTTE activists holding ‘Boycott Sri Lankan Cricket’ placards clashed.
The Sri Lankan High Commissioner had taken steps to notify the police, after taking this situation into consideration, the External Affairs Secretary said.
