Ajith Prasanna released on bail

Former Southern Provincial Councilor and UPFA candidate Ajith Prasanna, who was arrested on charges of unlawful assembly and obstructing police, has been released on bail by the Colombo Fort Magistrate today (11).

Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage visited the private hospital where the suspect has been admitted to and ordered that he be released on two personal bails of Rs 500,000 each.

Prasanna was arrested on Sunday (09) by a special team of officers from Galle Police at a private hospital in Colombo and was remanded until today. He continued to remain in the hospital under police security.

A former army major, Prasanna was involved in an altercation with police officers during a procession in the Galle Town on Thursday (06) after handing in nominations for the forthcoming PC polls.

Wearing the army uniform and wielding the Sri Lankan National Flag, he had scuffled with police officers in the presence of senior public and police officers when his supporters were prevented from proceeding further due to another parade.
