At least 99 were killed in Algeria on Tuesday when a military transport plane crashed in the east of the country, Algerian state radio reported.

The plane was flying from the southern city of Ouargla to the town of Oum el-Bouaghi, 500 kilometers (310 miles) east of Algiers. Witnesses in the area say it clipped a mountain and then crashed.

Foreign media reported that the C-130 Hercules aircraft was flying “in poor weather conditions,” Algerian radio said.

The plane was carrying 99 passengers -- soldiers and their families -- as well as four crew members.

“There were no survivors,” an Algerian security source told AFP.
