Three women arrested with over Rs.5 mil in gold

Customs officers at the Katunayake International Airport have arrested three women attempting to illegally smuggle gold biscuits and jewelry worth millions of rupees to India.
Two of the women had arrived at the airport in order to board a flight to Trichy and were searched by customs officials on a suspicion.
Four gold bracelets and 2 gold chains, estimated to be worth around Rs 3.03 million, were found in their possession.
Meanwhile another woman, who was preparing to board a flight to Chennai, was arrested by Sri Lanka Customs for attempting to leave the country with 3 gold biscuits concealed in her rectum.
The total weight of the gold is said to be 375 grams and is worth an estimated Rs 1.8 million.
The arrested suspects, all residents of Colombo, are being detained and further investigated by airport customs.
