The mother of slain LTTE suspect Kajeepan Ponniah Selvanayagam alias Gopi, who was killed in a confrontation with army soldiers in Nedunkerny, has been released on bail after being produced before a court in Colombo.

She was arrested by the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) in Killinochchi several days back.

Several suspects including Gopi’s mother were produced before the court yesterday (13) and subsequently released on bail, a spokesman for the TID told Ada Derana.

Top LTTE suspects Gopi, Appan and Sundaralingam Kajeepan alias Thevian were killed in the clash between armed forces and suspected LTTE operatives on April 10 in Nedunkerny area of Vavuniya.

The three men were operating from a jungle in the Padaviya area of northern Mullaittivu district when they were surrounded by soldiers early Friday and were shot and killed while trying to escape the cordon.

They were suspected of trying to revive the now-defunct LTTE.
