Railway substitute workers are currently obstructing the Ruhunu Kumari train, preventing it from leaving the Colombo Fort Railway Station, until their demands are met, the Railways Control Room said.

The railway workers, who were engaged in a protest fast near the Fort Railway Station, are reportedly blocking the railway track in front of the train, which was scheduled to depart at 3.45pm along the coastal line.

This has also disrupted train services along the coastal line.

Members of the Sri Lanka Freedom Railway Workers Association launched an indefinite fast in front of the Colombo Fort Railway Station yesterday (April 21) demanding that additional, substitute and temporary workers be made permanent.

Three of the railway workers engaged in the indefinite fast, including the chief secretary of the association Nadeera Manoj, were hospitalized earlier today. They are currently receiving treatment at the Colombo national hospital.
