Taxes on rice imports removed...

The Cabinet Sub-Committee on cost of living met at the Ministry of Finance on Friday (6) and decided to reduce tax on imported rice with effect from midnight today in order to bring relief to the people who are affected by the current soaring rice prices. The committee convened under the patronage of Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake, Minister for Special Assignments Dr. Sarath Amunugama, Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Minister Mahinda Amaraweera and Industry and Commerce Minister Rishad Bathiudeen.
