Western Province Chief Minister Prasanna Ranatunga today lodged a complaint with the Cinnamon Garden police against a person who said to have made a false complaint to the Welikada police against him.

G.W. Piyasena, a resident of Melwatta in Rajagiriya lodged the complaint on Tuesday alleging that the Chief Minister assaulted him with a cricket bat, causing injuries to his hand. The victim is currently receiving treatment at Ward No.72 of the Colombo National Hospital.

The chief minister said that the allegations were fabricated. He pointed out the whole incident was a conspiracy to damage his good name.

“It is significant to reveal who is really behind this. I will sue this person. Then the truth will be disclosed,” said Ranatunga.

Gampaha District MP Ruwan Ranatunga, a brother of Prasanna Ranatunga, had too lodged a complaint on Wednesday alleging that Piyasena had verbally abused them, in a complaint to the Welikada police.

Police Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana told Ada Derana that preliminary investigations have been launched in to the three cases.
