Vice principal arrested for hunting, killing 6 spotted mouse-deer

The vice principal of a school in Hambantota has been arrested with 6 Sri Lankan spotted chevrotain (M. meminna), often referred to as the Spotted Mouse-Deer, killed for its meat in the Gannoruwa area.

The suspect was arrested following an operation carried out by Police Special Task Force (STF) personnel and a group of Hambantota wildlife officers, Ada Derana reporter said.

A firearm, 12 bullets and several empty shells have also been found in the possession of the suspect, who is to be produced at the Hambantota Magistrate’s Court today.
