The driver of JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayaka has been arrested in connection with yesterday’s accident at Ratnapura, Police Spokesman told Ada Derana. The driver was taken into custody on charges of reckless driving, the spokesman added.

JVP leader MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake was admitted to the Ratnapura Hospital with minor injuries an accident at Kiriella yesterday morning.

Dissanayake’s vehicle had reportedly collided with a tipper truck transporting sand on the Ratnapura-Horana road at around 10.30am.

The Member of Parliament (MP) had sustained minor injuries to his foot following the collision and was transferred to the Colombo National Hospital. Anura Kumara Dissanayake was appointed as the new leader of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), also known as the People’s Liberation Front, at its seventh convention in February.
