Kolonnawa UC Chairman remanded in assault case

The Chairman of the Kolonnawa Urban Council, Ravindra Udayashantha, has been remanded until August 22 after he surrendered to courts over the alleged assault on the UC deputy chairman Suresh Kodagoda.
A complaint had been lodged with police on August 2 stating that Kodagoda was assaulted by a group of individuals including the Kolonnawa UC chairman.
The deputy chairman was admitted to the IDH hospital after the incident and later transferred to the Colombo National Hospital.
On August 5, police arrested 5 suspects over the alleged assault incident, however Udayashantha had been absconding.
He surrendered to the Colombo Magistrate’s Court this morning and was ordered remanded until August 22 by Additional Magistrate Nirosha Fernando.
