Health sector staff call off strike

August 21, 2014   11:32 am

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has instructed relevant authorities to expedite the process to provide adequate answers for issues faced by the health sector junior staff.

This was discussed at a special meeting held last evening at the Temple Trees with the committee members attached to the All Ceylon Health Services Union (ACHU). It is supposed to deliver a positive respond for the issues, within three months time.

In the mean time, the Convener of the Joint Trade Union Committee (JTUC) H.P. Somaratne said that the hospital sector unions have call-off the island wide strike on grounds of President’s respond.

The junior staffs of all the government hospitals across the country, on 13 and 20 August, boycott their duties in protest over several demands.

The island wide strike was launched under the direction of the All Ceylon Health Services Union (ACHU), citing several demands, including the implementation of 6/2006 circular, non making of casual labourers permanent and several other issues.
