Two officers, a prison guard and an immigration and emigration officer, who alleged to have facilitated the escape of drug kingpin Dewage Thusitha Chamara alias Dilan, were arrested this morning, police Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana said.

The two officers were apprehended following details given by the escapee suspect who is currently being interrogated at the Police Narcotic Bureau (PNB), under detention orders.

“We have received details that the prison guard was promised sum Rs. 20,000 to aid the suspect for his escape. The immigration and emigration officer has accepted Rs. 100,000 from Dilan in order to help him to creep through the airport terminals,” said SSP.

“The suspects will be produced in the Courts. The PNB still grills the suspect to get more information,” he added.

The suspect escaped from the Colombo North Teaching Hospital, Ragama, while being treated in the custody of Prison authorities on 28 June. The drug kingpin who is said to control a sizable network of individuals involved in the drug trade in and around Colombo, was arrested by the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) with 500g brown sugar heroin, along with another individual on June 20.
