Campaign for Free and Fair Elections (CaFFE) alleged that no arrests have been made with respect to 35 election violation complaints reported in Monaragala district during the Uva Provincial Council election campaigns, thus far.

Adding another incident to the list, the election office of the Moneragala district provincial council candidate Wijesinghe Herath was attacked in the early hours of this morning (2).

“Not a single person has been arrested in connection with the continuous election violence and violations in Moneragala and it is suspicious that not a single policeman is in the vicinity when these attacks are carried out.

Opposition activists claim that gunmen travelling in unmarked vehicles and those with garage numbers carry out these nocturnal attacks with impunity,” CaFFE says.

Some 120 complaints have been received from Moneragala district while 35 complaints were reported from Badulla district.
