Thundershowers in Western and Southern provinces

The Mat. Department says that several spells of showers or thundershowers will occur today in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Western, Northwestern and Southern provinces.

Thundershowers will develop at several places elsewhere during the afternoon or evening.

According to the department, fairly strong winds are also likely at times along the western slopes of the Central hills and there may be temporary localized fairly strong winds during showers elsewhere.

General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize the damages caused by lightning activities.The sea area around the island (particularly in the Bay of Bengal ) will be rough at times as the winds can strengthen more than 60kmph.
