VIDEO: Voting underway for 2014 Uva PC polls

Voting in the 2014 Uva Provincial Council elections is now underway. Voting started at 7.00 a.m. this morning under tight security. Election monitoring organizations says that a peaceful state reported in the Badulla and Monaragala districts during the last 24- hours.
All together 617 candidates (323 - Monaragala and 294 - Badulla) representing 14 political parties and 11 independent groups will contest the election. 14 councilors will be elected for the Moneragala district while 18 will be elected for the Badulla district.
Voting will take place in some 516 centers in the Badulla district and at 318 centers in the Moneragala district.
Police Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said over 12,000 police personnel including 1,000 Police Special Task Force (STF) and another 1,000 Police personnel in civil have been deployed to provide security at 835 polling centres in the Badulla and Moneragala districts since Friday (19). He added that some 232 Police patrol services and 11 Police riots squads have been also deployed, since yesterday.
