Haldummulla Pradeshiya Sabha Member Nimal Karunaratne (UNP) was hospitalized after being allegedly assaulted by a group of UPFA supporters in Haldummulla, this morning.

In his complaint to the police, Karunaratne has stated that he was assaulted by a group of people accompanied by Chairman of the Haldummulla Pradeshiya Sabha, R.M. Danarathna (UPFA).

The victim has been admitted to the Haldummulla District hospital with stab wounds according to the police. Karunaratne was attacked by the group in front of his resident in Haldummulla at around 5.10 a.m.

No arrests have been made, thus far, in connection with the incident. A source from the Haldummulla police said that an investigation is underway to ascertain more details, on this matter.
