Missing Persons Commission to hold public sittings in Killinochchi

The Presidential Commission to Investigate into Complaints Regarding Missing Persons will hold public settings in Kilinochchi District for the second time from 27 to 30 Sept.
Sittings will be held at the Punagiri Divisional Secretariat on 29 to 30 Sept, and at the Mulankavil Tamil College on 27 to 28 Sept.
The Commission has held its previous public sittings in Northern and Eastern provinces covering Jaffna, Mannar and Batticaloa Districts.
To date, 19,452 complaints have been received by the Commission, inclusive of approximately 5,000 complaints from relatives of missing security forces personnel.
The Commission has thus far inquired over 1000 complaints, which are being analysed for further investigations through an independent investigation team.
The three-member committee that comprises Mano Ramanathan, Priyanthi Suranjana Vidyaratna, and former High Court Judge Maxwell Parakrama Paranagama, was appointed by Extraordinary Gazette, No. 1823/42, under the provisions of Section 2 of the Commission of Inquiry Act.
