A father whose son was allegedly assaulted by some students attached to the St. John’s College in Nugegoda for not be present at a recent protest held at school accused that the police did not take proper actions against the suspects because one of a suspect’s uncle is attached to IGP’s security squad.

The student who sustained serious injuries following the assaulting incident was admitted to Colombo South Hospital. Father, Nandana Pieris, alleged that a group of students who were motivated by the Disciplinary Head teacher of the school were behind his son’s attack. “Two individuals also threatened me at the police station. My son’s life is now in danger. The police investigation was biased,” he added.

However, Police Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana while refusing the allegation said that this case has been referred to the mediation board.

“Yes, we could produce these suspected students before a Magistrate. But we have no intention to bring this school children’s matters to courts,” SSP Rohana said.

St. John’s College was closed on 16 and 17 Sept. in order resolve a dispute, following protests demanding the annulment of transfer orders issued to the school’s principal.

However, a group of parents had engaged in protests as well as last Friday demanding that the principal not be transferred from the school.
