Sri Lanka’s chief selector, Sanath Jayasuriya has resigned with immediate effect from the panel appointed by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) to select the next national coach.
Jayasuriya told Ada Derana that he reached to the decision due to a personal matter. He said that he has sent his letter of resignation to SLC Executive Committee President Jayantha Dharmadasa and Secretary Nishantha Ranatunga.
According to the experts, former Sri Lankan captain and current interim coach Marvan Atapattu remains optimistic that he will take over the team on a permanent basis.
However, names of experienced coaches Mickey Arthur and Eric Simons are being thrown around. As such, with a short list of around nine people being pondered, Atapattu feels he is the strongest candidate to hold the job, over names like Mickey Arthur, Eric Simons, and other high-profile coaches.
