Navy seize gold hidden inside fishing boat

Sri Lankan Navy on Monday seized more than 1.7 kilograms of hidden inside a fishing in order to be smuggled to India. 

Naval troops attached to SLNS Uttara of the Northern Naval Command in a pre-dawn raid conducted on information received, seized a haul of 1.730 kilograms of gold, which had been hidden inside a fiber glass dingy on the beach in Madagalthurei, the navy media unit said. 

It is suspected that the gold, comprising 08 gold biscuits and 04 gold pieces, had been kept concealed under the fishing nets for smuggling to India. 

The apprehended gold is to be handed over to Customs officials for further investigations.
