Kenya accepts to chair G15 countries after SL
President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta discussed enhancing relations between the two countries as well as furthering Sri Lanka’s relations with Africa overall. The discussion took place in New York last week.

Kenya has agreed to chair the Group of 15 countries ( G15) after Sri Lanka, the 30th meeting of the Ministers of Foreign affairs of the Group held at the sidelines of the 69th United Nations General Assembly has been told.

Speaking during the meeting, Kenya’s Foreign Affairs and International Trade Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed thanked the Group for the confidence they had shown and the role they had bestowed on Kenya to lead the Group.

“We know it is a heavy responsibility but Kenya will do its best to ensure the G15 objectives are met. Particularly, in seeking for a common answer for the challenges facing the group,” She said. 

She said the issues had been discussed and agreed between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Sri Lankan counterpart Mahinda Rajapaksa at an earlier meeting. 

She thanked the Government of Sri Lanka for providing leadership for the four years and taking the lead to revitalise the activities of the Group, Standard Media reports.
