24 Lankan fishermen arrested off Bangladesh

A group of 24 Sri Lankan fishermen have been arrested for violating the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) and poaching in Bangladesh waters.

The fishermen along with their two trawlers were arrested by Bangladeshi coastguard patrol boats this morning, the Fisheries Ministry said.

The arrested fishermen are reportedly residents of Matara, Gantara and Weligama areas while the fisheries ministry said measures are currently being taken for their immediate release.
