Low level disturbance forms in Bay of Bengal

October 31, 2014   05:29 pm

The Department of Meteorology says that a low level disturbance has formed in the Bay of Bengal to the east of Sri Lanka and that this system is likely to intensify further.

Under the influence of this system showery weather is expected to continue over most parts of the island particularly in the Northern, Eastern, Uva and North Central provinces.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Northern, Eastern, North Central, Uva and Southern provinces. Thundershowers will develop elsewhere particularly during the afternoon and night. Heavy falls (more than 100mm) are also likely at some places.

There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers, the Met Department said while  urging the general public to take adequate precautions to minimize the damages caused by lightning activities.
