Sri Lanka wins first ODI against England

England lost their first one-day international against Sri Lanka in Colombo despite a superb century from Moeen Ali.

Tillakaratne Dilshan top scored for the hosts with 88 and Kusal Perera and Mahela Jayawardene both hit half centuries as they racked up 317 for six.

The tourists’ captain Alastair Cook won the toss and elected to field but it soon became clear it was not the best choice.

England went off like a train with Moeen converting a 25-ball fifty into a ton from 72 deliveries - the third quickest by an Englishman in one-day internationals - but wickets fell regularly around him.

Ravi Bopara scored a good half century but too many got themselves out after starts and England eventually lost by 25 runs.
