Low pressure area intensifies into a depression again

The Department of Meteorology says that the low pressure area has intensified into a depression again and is located about 400 km east to Hambantota. It is expected to move northwards affecting to the weather of the country and surrounding sea area.
Showers will occur over most parts particularly in the Eastern, Uva, Central, Northern and North central provinces and in the Hambantota district.
Heavy falls (more than 100 mm) are also likely at some places, according to a severe weather advisory issued by the Early Warning Centre of the Met Department.
Strong winds (up to 60-80 Km/hr) can be expected at times over the island and over the sea areas around the island.
Significant rainfalls reported from main meteorological stations during last 21hrs ending at 05.30 a.m. today:- 96.3 from Batticaloa
Intermittent showers or thundershowers will occur in the sea areas around the island.
Winds will be North-Easterly and speed will be 50-60 kmph. The sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Galle via Kankasanthurei, Batticaloa and Pottuvil may be very rough at times and dangerous as the winds can strengthen up to 80 kmph at times.
The other sea areas around the island will also be rough at times, it said.
