Two youths including female have been arrested with foreign and local currency with an estimated value of Rs 88 million at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake this evening (21).
The passengers, a 22-year-old female and a 24-year-old male from Dematagoda, were arrested by the officers attached to narcotics control unit of Sri Lanka Customs.
They were preparing to board flight UL 225 at 6.25 pm bound for Dubai when they were intercepted at the Silk Route of BIA Departure.
A large number Rs 1,000 notes and foreign currency including US dollars and Euros with a total estimated value of Rs 88 million were found inside parcels in their luggage, the custom spokesman said.
Investigations are being carried out by Sri Lanka Customs.
