Angry mob attacks police team in Palai

A suspect was shot and injured while in police custody as he attempted to flee from the officers in Aduthurai area Palai, last evening (24), the police said.

A tense situation was also prevailed in the area following the shooting incident, it was reported. The tense situation erupted after the residents of the area attempted to attack the police.

“A team of police officers was deployed to arrest the suspect over a complaint lodged with the Palai police on Saturday (23),” a police officer said.

The injured suspect, who sustained non-life threatening injuries, has been admitted to the Jaffna Teaching hospital for treatments.
