Justice Sarath de Abrew, who is alleged to have attacked a domestic worker at his home on or around June 26, surrendered to the Mt-Lavinia Magistrate’s Court, a short while ago, Ada Derana court reporter said.

A woman who had served as a domestic worker at the residence of the Justice in question lodged a complaint with Mt. Lavinia Police claiming that she had been assaulted. Based on this complaint, a team of police officers had visited Abrew’s residence in order to record a statement, however, the judge had declined to give a statement, it was reported.

The Sri Lankan Domestic Workers Union, along with other trade unions and women’s groups, organised a picket on Monday (6), outside the Supreme Court over this incident as well.

Earlier, a police constable attached to the Mount Lavinia police also lodged a complaint against Abrew, stating the judge has allegedly assaulted him while he was on guard duty at the judge’s residence at Attidiya, Mt Lavinia in 2012.

UPDATE: Justice Sarath de Abrew has been released on bail by the Mt-Lavinia Magistrate, a short while ago, reporter added.
