IGP N. K. Illangakoon has ordered an investigation into the alleged assault on two suspects including the 17-year-old schoolboy who were taken into custody in connection with the sexual assault and murder of five-year-old Seya Sadewmi in Karandeniya.

The investigation prompted after a complaint was lodged by the teenager and the 31-year-old man alleging that the police had severely assaulted them while they were under interrogation.

The investigation is being carried out under directions from Western Province Senior DIG Pujith Jayasundara, the police said.

Seya Sadewmi was found strangled to death on September 13 while she was reported missing from her home at Kotadeniyawa in Divulapitiya on the previous day.
