SC dismisses Gunasekera’s petition

The Supreme Court has dismissed a petition filed by the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka D.E.W. Gunasekera against nominating defeated candidates as UPFA National List MPs.


The petition was dismissed  when it came before the three judge bench comprising Chief Justice K. Sripavan.


The SC informed the petitioner that there is no legality to hear the petition with the Speaker has already given his approval on this regard, Ada Derana Court reporter said.


The petition argued that the present process over the National List does not meet the requirements of the people’s mandate and the right to vote.
