A senior Immigration and Emigration officer at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake was arrested by Sri Lanka Customs with 60 gold biscuits, worth Rs. 36 million, concealed in his pockets.

The 50-year-old senior immigration officer was apprehended at around 11.30pm last night in the Departure Terminal of the airport.

The 60 gold biscuits weighing over 6 kg are worth around Rs 36 million.

It is suspected that a passenger who had arrived from abroad has handed over the gold to the immigration officer at the airport.

A penalty of Rs 3 million was imposed on the suspect while the 60 gold biscuits were declared forfeit.
