Traffic jam due to protest opposite UGC

Severe traffic congestion has been reported at Ward Place and Town Hall areas in Colombo due to a protest being staged by university students.

The protest is staged opposite the University Grants Commission (UGC).

The protest, organized by the Inter University Students’ Federation (IUSF), commenced from near the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

The protest march is being held in protest against the police attack on protesting HNDA students at Ward Place last week. 

Earlier today a directive was issued by the Nugegoda Magistrate to hold the demonstration without obstructing traffic along the main road.
