DMC warns naval and fishing communities

Fishing and Naval communities have been advised to be vigilant as wind speed to increase 70-80 kmph from Mannar - Hambantota, Batti and Trinco.- Disaster  Management Centre says.


Due to the atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka, possibility for rain over the island and neighboring sea areas is high, the Met. Department predicts.


Showers or thundershowers will occur at times with cloudy skies in the Northern, North-central, Eastern and Uva provinces. Thundershowers will develop most places elsewhere after 12.00 noon.


Heavy falls (about 100 mm) are also likely at some places.


There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers. General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.
