Military Spokesman Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera today denied reports that the army camp in Giritale has been sealed off.
Responding to a question from journalists during the Cabinet press briefing today, he said that certain media had incorrectly reported that Giritale army camp has been sealed.
Jayaweera said that only several cupboards at the army camp have been sealed and that it was incorrectly reported as the entire camp has been sealed off.
When asked whether the disregard of court orders regarding the disappearance of journalist Prageeth Eknaligoda had led to the situation, the spokesman said that investigations into the incident are ongoing.
Meanwhile Minister of Mass Media Gayantha Karunathilaka stated that Minister of Law and Order Sagala Ratnayake had assured they are looking into an incident where a police constable had forcibly taken away the notes of a journalist who went to report the magisterial inquiry into the death of a youth in Embilipitiya.
