Jayantha Jayasuriya to be appointed Attorney General

The Constitutional Council (CC) today recommended the name of President’s Counsel Jayantha Jayasuriya to the post of Attorney General, JVP MP Vijitha Herath told Ada Derana. 

He is expected to be sworn in as the 29th Attorney General of Sri Lanka before President Maithripala Sirisena. 

The current Senior Additional Solicitor-General, Jayasuriya has served in the Attorney General’s Department for over 32 years. 

 President Maithripala Sirisena appointed Suhada Gamalath, P.C, as Acting Attorney General of Sri Lanka with effect from the 11th of January 2016.

Attorney General Yuvanjana Wijayatilake P.C, the 28th Attorney General of Sri Lanka retired from service with effect from 10th of January 2016. 

He was appointed as Attorney General on the 23rd of October 2014 by then President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
