A Fundamental Rights (FR) petition has been filed with the Supreme Court today (18) seeking an order to revoke the decision to appoint Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka as a Member of Parliament.
The petition was filed through an attorney who appeared on behalf of the Centre for Policy Alternatives, Ada Derana reporter said.
The respondents for the case include General Secretary of the UNP, Minister Kabir Hashim, MP Sarath Fonseka, the Speaker, the Election Chief and the AG.
Sarath Fonseka took oath as a MP before Speaker Karu Jayasuriya on February 09. The UNP had unanimously approved Fonseka for the Parliamentary seat left vacant by the death of Minister M.K.A.D.S. Gunawardena.
