News websites asked to obtain registration before March 31

The Ministry of Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media today requested all news websites operating in Sri Lanka to take necessary steps to obtain registration before March 31.


In a statement, the Ministry said, “All news websites operating in Sri Lanka has to be registered with the Ministry of Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media enabling them to be operated under recognized ethics and standards without interruption. 


Many websites have already been registered under this scheme and websites that had not been registered so far are kindly requested to take necessary steps to obtain registration before 31st of March 2016 and it is regretfully informed that the websites remain unregistered will be considered as unlawful from the above date.
