Laggala traffic OIC interdicted

The officer-in-charge (OIC) of the Laggala Police Station’s traffic unit, who is alleged to have taken part in a social gathering to consume alcohol at police barracks the night before the theft of 6 firearms, has been interdicted with effect from today (05).
Sub-Inspector (SI) Mahesh Priyanga has been interdicted as per the instruction of Matale ASP N. Janaka Weerasinghe.
A T56 rifle and 5 revolvers were stolen from the Laggala police station at around 1.00 am on April 14 by an individual who had opened the locked armory.
Three police officers who were on duty at the Laggala police station at the time were interdicted.
The firearms were later discovered near a water tank in the premises of the Sandagala Viharaya in Wellewela, around 5km from the Laggala police station two days later.
