Maj Gen Manawadu passes away

Major General Sumith Manawadu who was admitted to the National Hospital with serious head injuries passed away this morning, Military spokesman told Ada Derana.
Major-General Sumith Manawadu was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital after sustaining an injury on Wednesday. He had sustained life threatening injuries after a wooden beam suddenly collapsed on him at a construction site, it was reported.
When contacted by Ada Derana, Military Spokesman Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera stated that the incident had occurred at around 6.40am on Wednesday morning at a property belonging to the Major General on Old Kesbewa Road in Delkanda. A wooden beam had collapsed on his head while he had been inspecting the construction work at the site. He was immediately rushed to the Army Hospital and later transferred to the National Hospital, the spokesman said.
Sumith Manawadu was the officer who arrested former army commander and common candidate Sarath Fonseka after the Presidential Election 2010. Later he was appointed as the Deputy High Commissioner for Malaysia as well.
