Four-member committee appointed over supplementary estimate vote

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya today appointed a four-member committee to submit a report regarding yesterday’s Parliament vote on the Rs 55 million supplementary estimate.

 Opposition Leader R. Sampanthan, MP Chamal Rajapaksa, Ministers Wijedasa Rajapaksa and Rauf Hakeem have been appointed to the committee.

The result of voting on the supplementary estimate moved by the Government for the fiscal year 2016 was yesterday announced as a tie with 31 votes for and against.

A fresh vote on the supplementary estimate was expected to be taken in Parliament.  

Meanwhile Parliament session has been suspended briefly for a special party leaders meeting over the passing of the supplementary estimate.
