In a bid to safeguard the democracy, all should learn to respect media freedom, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa said.
The observation was made while speaking at an event held in Beliatta.
“Some people have forgotten that there was a war in this country,” he pointed out.
The former President alleged the authorities of attempting to control media freedom against its effort to expose postwar related information. “They name-and-blame those who reveal these,” he added.
Rajapaksa also went on to say sometimes it makes him laugh when he sees some ‘defectors’ make allegations on television. “They act like we had never met, even spoke, or like they never asked for favors from us,” he said.
