Japanese investors show tremendous interest in Sri Lanka’s potential

Japanese investors have shown tremendous interest in Sri Lanka’s potential for investment opportunities.
This was revealed when the representatives of Japanese mega corporations met President Maithripala Sirisena this afternoon (May 27) at Hilton Nagoya Hotel.
Takashi Yamauchi, the President of Taisei Corporation expressed his interest in investing in various sectors, including highway construction, expansion of Bandaranaike International Airport and building of monorail with the speed up to 500kms per hour.
President of Hitachi Corporation Toshiaki Higashihara also expressed his interest in constructing monorail in Sri Lanka. He said the company has already done preliminary survey on monorail requirement in Colombo and suburbs and it has concluded that there is an immediate requirement of 75kms monorail lines.
He also said his company could implement projects on water treatment, infrastructure, energy and IT sectors. He also paid attention on setting up an IC card system as tickets for rail and busses. That card also could be used as a bank credit stored debit card.
Governor of Aichi Prefecture Hideaki Oomura called on President Sirisena and said industrialists from his area are interested in enhancing investments in Sri Lanka. He said he was proud of Noritaki, one of the Japanese companies invested in Sri Lanka. He said Noritaki has become a global corporation.
President Sirisena is scheduled to have further discussions with potential investors.
Ministers Ravi Karunanayake, Malik Samarawickrama, Naveen Dissanayake and Mahinda Amaraweera also participated in these discussions.
