UPFAers should vote against VAT bill - Gunawardena

July 13, 2016   03:18 pm

Former Minister and MP Bandula Gunawardena today insisted that the members of the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) should not vote in favour of the bill on the Value Added Tax (VAT).

The observation was made while speaking at a press conference held in Colombo this afternoon (13).

He pointed out this issue cannot be sorted by reducing the prices of some essential goods or providing a controlled price on essential commodities.

“Therefore, steps should be taken by the UPFA MPs to defeat the bill,” he added.

Gunawardena also pointed out that credit should be given to the Joint Opposition in its effort to obtain a court order to halt the tax increase.
