Sri Lanka team targeted by protests over government’s Tamil policies

Not for the first time, Lord’s has become the scene of a
political protest. Sri Lankan protesters have been picketing the ground,
calling for the country’s cricket team to return home and for other nations to
boycott matches against the side.
About 50 London-based Sri Lankans gathered outside the

I don’t think the girl who screaming here even see where and what color Sri Lanka is (May be she was born in UK).If they think there is a human right violation or ethnic problem in Sri Lanka, how come Muttaih Muralidaran become best bowler in the world.(Now he is the vice captain).The authorities, selectors of Sri Lankan cricket could have destroyed his career when he started performing well without selecting him to a team and even all Sri Lankan (Arjuna and team)save and protected him when Aus, and other´s (Suddo) were trying to quiet him from the International cricket..now these little kids trying to destroy the career´s of our cricketers(Including Murali) without knowing what is the truth and what is happening in our country...

hey people , Get a life . Whole world knows what is going on in sri lanka. There is no descrimination . Murali a tamil is a vice captain of the cricket team and he is loved by every one. It is same for any tamil or muslim or anybody who lives in sri lanka . If you guys keep on doing this, it is going to haunt you all. Think hard- UK will get to know more about sri lanka and they will know the truth. So they will not grant asylum or visa for you all. go ahead keep on picketing and dig your own hole. Good luck

Mr. Naneakumar, if the human rights issue is the only reason why you are protesting, then you need to go home and inform yourself better about the actual happenings in Sri Lanka. Once you find out the facts, you’ll really start detesting your leaders who misled you and thousands of other young Tamil people. At least you are in the UK having a good life, protesting under the protection of the police force. Your poor cousins back in Sri Lanka, on the other hand, were not so lucky and we all know of their unfortunate fate. My suggestion to you is to give up your hatred that your community elders have poisoned you with and save your life while you still are young.

But near future be ready to come down..probably with your parents..( Cos the War is over and no more war refugees)..And SL Govt can take care of these kind of pple..When thousands of people were killing by LTTE bombs where were these shoutings..Probably not shouting from the same place?? Let the protesters ask themselves how they can justify the use of child soldiers by the LTTE and then protest on the "supposed" human rights abuses of the government!! Surely handing a child as young as 10 years old a cyanide capsule is worse than whatever they think is going on Sri Lanka!

I wonder that any of these so called TAMILS given a cent to the IDPs. Being a sinhalese I gave money to these helpless ppl. Why do they call them their ppl. I dnt see why they should even protest. Coz they r only shouting coz their so called liberation or BBC´s rebel or in human eyes Bloody Terrorists are whipped out from Sri Lanka. The best to do is go in front of them and ask them to donate something for so called their own. These TAMIL EXTREMISTs are the worst. This would go on till the cows come home., but less and less people will support the LTTE in time to come. There is no genuine interest in these people about the IDP s. If they had any concern , that should have been in the times LTTE took the civilians with them. They just shut up and waited. they waited for the people to be killed , but it didn´t happen. The GOSL understood the mindset of LTTE very well, They were waiting for the LTTE each time they launched surprise attack , That the Army did consistently from wakarai to PTK. When time goes by diaspora tamils will realize that life is much easier without LTTE. However a dynamic balance willl be achieved between the protestors and "others" . Let s hope the UK and the others keep on feeding the bogus refugees. That is less of a burden for SL. SL can do better with out these people who are parasites, trying to take advantage every step of the way. IMPORTANT : about GAMUNU ´s comment "UMBALATA RATAK NAA...." . I hope that this comment was made with the tamil diaspora in mind and not the tamils living in this country. We must realize that this Land belongs to each and everyone of its citizens. We are almost there! (we dont have segregation policy like in the US UK SA.... ).Lets hope for a time where noone is bothered about race or religion anymore , and respect everyone. Whether the impact of these protests are real or not, I wrote twice the potential danger for the safety of our crickerts earlier directly addressing Mr Nishantha Ranathunge. He was expressing that the security provided for the team is good enough. Hope he would now accept that there could be a real threat by these LTTE sympathisers.

The potential for violence against the Sri Lankan team by Tamil Tiger supporters has to be taken very very seriously. The Team was in Toronto to play in a tournament last October. The protestors started out small, but grew day by day and on the fourth and final day were in their thousands, Tamil Tiger flags aloft, airplane flying with banner saying ´Stop Genocide´ against Sri Lanka. They yelled obsecenities against the Team and supporters all day. The Team replied in style by winning the Tournament and Ajantha Mendis was the man of the match. Afterwards, some Sri Lanka supporters were assaulted on their way out and all were abused. Tamils who supported the Team inside the stadium, had to quietly fold the SL flag and change out of their SL Team T-shirts, for fear of more violent repurcussions. The Team bus was pelted with stones. An SUV tried to run the bus off the road. Some players received death threats at their hotel. Despite Canada´s high moral standard at international podiums, there is much ´looking the other way´ when it comes to ethnic on ethnic violence (hence the LTTE´s ability to extort funds from non-sympathetic Tamils for years) and this was another one of those instances. Its good to note that there is a lot of police presence outside Lords, but organizers should be extremely wary. These are desperate people and we all know how a crowd can change into a mob especially in the hands of master-manipulators. Best of Luck to the Team. Glen.

Thank god all these LTTE supporters were accepted by other great nations that they fled to after leaving their own country. Now its their problem to deal with these lost terrorists. Not our problem if they start a war when their demands are not met, hoping to create their little eelam in these countries. But we should be careful about sending our SL team to other countries.
