July 23, 2016   05:29 pm

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Harsha de Silva says that the campaign against the Value Added Tax (VAT) increase at a number of shops in the country is a “complete lie” being carried out by a certain group.

The deputy minister was responding to a question from a journalist regarding the display of anti-VAT posters in certain shops in the country.

He claimed that this is being done in order to fulfill the needs of certain groups of a political party and that it is an attempt to deceive the public.

Harsha stated that the government would take steps to educate the country regarding the matter and that the VAT imposed on medical services has already been removed.

He said that the government intends to implement a process to increase government income in a manner that will not inconvenience the people.
