It is questionable why former Minister Basil Rajapaksa was admitted to the Merchants Ward of the National Hospital in Colombo, Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne says.

The observation was made during a press conference held in Colombo this afternoon (27).

He pointed out the former Minister may have admitted to the Merchant Ward upon a recommendation from the prison hospital.

While responding to reporters on the allegation that the government did not allow the Joint Opposition to reserve grounds to get accommodation for its proposed protest march, he said “how can they overthrow a government, they cannot even book a ground.”

He also went on to say that there is no point of organizing protests of this manner. “We also organized events like this, but there was not big damage as we expected,” he told reporters.
