Former Secretary to the Finance Ministry P. B. Jayasundara today arrived for questioning by the Presidential Commission of Inquiry to Investigate and Inquire into Serious Acts of Fraud, Corruption and Abuse of Power, State Resources and Privileges (also known as PRECIFAC).
A spokesman for the commission said the former Finance Secretary was summoned to record a statement in relation to the investigation into the import of hundred thousand metric tonnes of rice imported in 2014.
He has allegedly purchased the shipment of rice from an Indian company without cabinet approval.
The serious fraud commission states that the government had incurred a loss of 5 billion through this action.
Meanwhile the former North Central Province Chief Minister S.M. Ranjith was also summoned to the PRECIFAC this morning.
